CARACTERÍSTICAS ACÚSTICAS E ARTICULATÓRIAS NA PRODUÇÃO DE FRICATIVAS: PISTAS PARA DIAGNÓSTICO DE APRAXIA E ATUAÇÃO FONOAUDIOLÓGICA EM PESSOA COM SÍNDROME DE DOWN

ABSTRACT
In this study, we acoustically analyze the fricatives [f], [v], [s], [z], [S] and [Z] of Brazilian Portuguese produced by a person with Down Syndrome. The objective was to verify how the specificities of the vocal tract of this participant could interfere in the acoustic characteristics of the fricative segments produced by him. Our hypothesis is that alterations in the vocal tract can greatly impact speech production and consequently the fricative segments. For this research, we analyzed the production of the fricatives of a participant with Down Syndrome, named SM, born in Brumado (Bahia), 15 years old, male. SM is illiterate and has never undergone speech therapy. For the collection of data, we selected figures that represent real words, containing the fricatives to be analyzed. The words of the corpus contained the labiodental, alveolar and palato-alveolar fricatives (voiceless and voiced), in initial and medial syllable onset position, in several vowel contexts. The position of the syllabic coda was also analyzed, but this one was composed only by the fricative alveolar voiceless. The phono-articulatory organs were analyzed first. For acoustic analysis, the relative duration and the four (4) spectral moments of the fricative segments were measured by PRAAT (BOERSMA and WEENINCK, 2006). The results allow us to confirm the hypothesis of this research that the alterations in the phono-articulatory organs presented by the participant interfere in the acoustic findings of the fricatives produced by him. The results demonstrate difficulty in the production of the fricatives, especially when in the medial position, difficulty in the production of the voiced fricative segments and previous production of the palato-alveolar fricatives. In addition to the motor aspects, the results showed that SM presents a difficulty in oral motor planning and programming, inconsistency in articulatory movements and imprecision in the articulation of sounds, which points to a possible picture of speech apraxia.
