The initial prosodic template in the linguistic development of dizygotic twins

Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the development of an early prosodic template (VIHMAN; DAPAOLIS; DAVIS,1998; HALLÉ; DE BOYSSON-BARDIES; VIHMAN, 1991; BAIA, 2017; VIHMAN, 2018) in two pairs of dizygotic twins from the city Vitória da Conquista (BA), based on the paradigm of the Complex Adaptative Systems (THELEN; SMITH, 1994; BAIA, 2013) and the Exemplar Model  (BYBBE, 210, 2013; CRISTÓFARO-SILVA, 2003, 2017; CRISTÓFARO SILVA; GOMES, 2020), perspectives followed for an ample comprehension of the phenomenon, considering the variabilities and regularities in the development of the system. The prosodic templates considered in our research are monosyllabic (S), iambic (WS), trochee (SW) and three types of trisyllables (SWW, WSW and WWS). Their production is analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. After our analysis, we observed that the divergences in each pair point to intrasubject and intersubject variability. These variations allow and lead to the concomitant usage of diverse prosodic templates as well as a bias towards the omission of initial pretonic syllables. Thus, we emphasize the inherent variability of linguistic and rhythmic development, which extends to the interaction of the subjects in the development and the language use.
