ON LANGUAGE AND INTERACTION IN A LONG-TERM INSTITUTION FOR THE ELDERLY

ABSTRACT
On this research, we present the language of a subject, The Institutions of Long Permanence for Aged (ILPI). Thus, we seek to expose what can be said about the language of a resident of a ILPI, their relationship with each other and also the work done by the institution to promote the maintenance and reconstruction of the language of the elderly. We tried to analyze the influence of the nursing home in the functioning of the subject's language in question, GM. Therefore, to achieve these goals, we set out the assumptions of Neuro Discourse (ND), because we believe that its methodological theoretical framework allows evaluation of language in operation, taking into account the variation determined by the historical context of linguistic and cognitive processes. Thus, we have made a link between the issue of brain regeneration, widely discussed today in the area of neuroscience, and socio-cultural perspective formulated by Vygotsky (1989) which states that the interaction with each other is responsible for learning and the development of the individual. Also pointed out the studies on cognitive reserve (CR), led by Stern (2009), which corroborate the idea that not only the current environment, but all the individual's life history affects its ability to maintain and / or recover their brain functions, including language.
